If it’s not already etched in your memory, let me remind you that the end of this month, 31 March 2022, is the deadline for this year’s submissions to the Legal 500.
Most of us need a bit of a deadline to spur us into action, here are my five last minute tips for success.
1. Before you start, make sure all your passwords work, nobody wants the stress of dealing with technical issues as the clock ticks down. The Legal 500 FAQs gives details on how to request login details.
2. Pull your finger out. My earlier blog: tips to help you climb the rankings contains some handy hints to help you polish your submission so that it shines. You should be doing final tweaks not staring at a blank sheet of paper by now, so start burning the midnight oil ASAP if you are behind.
3. Show your referees some love. Even the most compelling submission won’t lead to a ranking without referees to back it up so, prioritise the referee spreadsheet over everything else. Spend some time contacting your referees to make sure they are still happy to be involved and remind them about the process. Ideally you will have enough time to do this by phone – for the personal touch, but email is better than nothing!
4. If you think you may need help or advice from your marketing team or other colleagues with your submission speak to them ASAP and DO NOT try and do this on the day of the deadline.
5. If time really does run away from you, don’t forget it’s possible to ask for an extension for the written submission.
Finally, have a sense of perspective at the ready – while you may feel under pressure to rank for the first time, maintain or improve your ranking it may take several attempts to achieve your goal.
Good luck!
